Mad Father

is a freeware survival horror role-playing puzzle video game. The game was developed by Japanese developer Sen, published by Miscreant's Room and released on 10 December 2012. The game centers around an 11-year-old girl named Aya, who breaks into her father's secret laboratory to uncover the horrifying truth of his research. A Steam version, published by AGM Playism, was released on 23 September 2016.

It is a game in which a young girl named Aya reminisces about her mother who died of sickness a few years previous. On the eve of her mother's death, when the sun has rested and the vengeful moonlight now rests on the old manor of the Drevis residence, she visits her father's laboratory and wishes to celebrate the day of her mother's death.

He agrees and dismisses her to bed. At the stroke of midnight, a scream originating from Aya's father pierces through the once silent house and fear rushes through the young girl as she discovers that corpses are loitering throughout her home. Will the dead that roam the manor engulf Aya? Will she cower and escape the mansion with the family assistant, Maria? Or will she carry on and save her father, realizing that she has made a drastic mistake that cannot be undone...

Gameplay

Your primary goal as the play involves looking for Aya's father. You, the player navigates Aya around her home riddled with ghosts and corpses. Along the path you are met with various puzzles and riddles you have to solve with clues spread out around the vicinity. Found around the manor are crows where you can save your game by interacting with them. There are multiple endings that are influenced by the choices you make in the game.

Characters

Aya drevis

The main protagonist and playable character of the game. She is the only daughter of Alfred Drevis and Monika Drevis, whom she lives with in the large mansion that makes up the setting for the majority of the game.

alfred drevis

A mad scientist who experiments on people and always stays in his basement. He is Aya's father. For a majority of the game, he is the victim, though in the 'good' endings, he turns out to be a primary antagonist.

dio

also known as the "Blonde Boy" (金髪の少年 Kinpatsu no Shonen), is a seemingly undead boy that Aya encounters in the mansion. His intentions seem to be good when she first meets him offering to help her by showing her the way, but Aya is shocked when she realizes half his face has been horribly burned and runs away, terrified.

Maria

The assistant and the lover of Alfred Drevis, who is currently living with the Drevis family in their mansion. She is a critical story character and one of the deciding factors for the ending achieved.

The mother of Aya and is mostly seen in flashbacks. She is revealed to be the antagonist at the for taking her husband but it was all for Aya's sake.

monika drevis

ines

one of Alfred Drevis's test subjects. She always approaches Aya with a strange and unsettling smile. She is Aya's adoptive older sisiter.
